Volunteer Opportunities

Who is a volunteer?

A school volunteer is a non-paid person willing to offer some of their personal time to share their wisdom and experiences. A school volunteer helps to expand and enrich the students' learning experiences by working under the direction of teachers and school staff.

Qualifications

A volunteer should have an interest in and comfort with working with students. They should have a professional commitment to their volunteer activity, regular attendance, a cooperative attitude, flexibility, good health, and be willing to take our Diocesan required CASE training.

Literacy Volunteers 

Works with children who finding reading difficult.
Description: Assist children enrolled in kindergarten, through 5th grade with reading readiness skills. The volunteer will also act to enhance self-esteem and confidence in the child through patience and encouragement Time Commitment: Time of day can vary, one hour per week.

Read Aloud Volunteers 

Inspire students to be readers by helping them learn to appreciate stories and books. 
Description: Assist children enrolled in kindergarten, through 5th grade with reading comprehension, listening and fluency skills. The volunteer will also act to enhance self-esteem and confidence in the child through patience and encouragement Time Commitment: Time of day can vary, one hour per week.

SuperStars Math Volunteers 

Work with students who find math a challenge and help them sharpen students' thinking and problem solving skills. Description: Assist children enrolled in kindergarten, through 5th grade with math skills. The volunteer will also act to enhance self-esteem and confidence in the child through patience and encouragement Time Commitment: Time of day can vary, one hour per week for one semester.

Classroom Speakers

Discuss personal areas of expertise in a classroom setting. Topics might include careers, hobbies and travel. Description: Demonstrate and teach public speaking and presentation skills to students in grades 3 through 5. Time Commitment: Time of day can vary, one hour per week.

Classroom Volunteers

Works regularly with a classroom teacher. They help students and assist with projects. Description: Assist classroom teachers in grades 2 through 5 in various areas of need; bulletin boards, preparing visual materials, reproduce materials, working with small student groups  Time Commitment: Time of day can vary, one -two hour per week.
